Visiting both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure in one day is possible, but it will take the whole day and, depending on when you visit, you may have to compromise on which rides you go on and which you skip.
A Park-to-Park ticket is necessary to visit both parks in one day. An Express Pass isn’t required but will make the day significantly less stressful.

Early Park Admission
If you are planning to visit both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure in one day, then I would suggest staying on-site at a Universal Orlando hotel. There are several great benefits to doing so that will make your day significantly better:
- Close to the Parks: It will take between 10 to 12 hours to visit both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in one day. Staying close to the parks reduces the extra time you need for commuting.
- Early Park Admission: This gets you entry into either Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure one hour before the general public.
- Express Pass: This is available for guests staying at selected Premier Universal Orlando hotels. Staying at a Premier hotel is often cheaper than booking elsewhere and paying for Express Passes separately.

If you are staying on-site at Universal Orlando, I highly suggest arriving for Early Park Admission, especially if you don’t have an Express Pass. This is going to be the quietest time of the day and give you a head start on some of the most popular rides.
Which park is available for Early Park Admission on the day of your visit will be listed on the Universal Orlando website. How you approach your day at the theme parks will change depending on if you have Early Park Admission and which park it’s running at.

If Early Park Admission is at Islands of Adventure, start at Islands of Adventure.
Hogsmeade and Jurassic World VelociCoaster are available during this time. You’ll want to go to the most popular ride in the theme park first: Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Then ride Jurassic World VelociCoaster before the park opens to the general public.

Once both parks open to the general public, take the Hogwarts Express over to Universal Studios Florida and pick up the standard itinerary highlighted below from there.
If Early Park Admission is at Universal Studios Florida, start at Universal Studios Florida.
Diagon Alley is available during this time. You’ll want to go to Gringotts first and take some time exploring Diagon Alley while the park is quiet. Once the park opens you can pick up the standard itinerary highlighted below.
If you don’t have Early Park Admission, the standard itinerary below starts at Universal Studios Florida.

Day Overview
The best approach is to start at Universal Studios Florida in the morning and move to Islands of Adventure just after lunch.
The most popular rides at Universal Studios Florida are:
- Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
- Revenge of the Mummy
- Despicable Me Minion Mayhem
- Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon
- The Bourne Stuntacular

The most popular rides at Islands of Adventure are:
- Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
- Jurassic World VelociCoaster
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
- The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man
- Skull Island: Reign of Kong

Here’s my suggested plan for visiting both parks:
- 8:40am: Arrive at Universal Studios Florida 20 minutes before opening
- 9:00am: Diagon Alley
- 10:30am: Revenge of the Mummy
- 11:30am: Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and Race Through New York
- 12:00pm: Lunch & Hogwarts Express
- 1:30pm: Hogsmeade
- 3:30pm: Jurassic World VelociCoaster
- 4:30pm: The Hulk
- 5:00pm: CityWalk Dinner
- 8:00pm: Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle, Islands of Adventure
- 9:00pm: CineSational, Universal Studios Florida
Morning Plan (8:40am – 12:00pm)
We’ll be starting your day at Universal Studios Florida. Aim to arrive at the park entrance 20 minutes before opening.

If you’re driving, you’ll need to walk from the parking garage, pass security and walk through CityWalk (which takes at least 20 minutes) so work backwards to figure out what time you need to leave your accommodation.

Make sure you’ve had breakfast before arriving at the theme park. The first hour is the most important. You don’t want to be wasting that time eating food. Plus, food outside the theme park is much cheaper.
The gates to Universal Studios Florida open before the theme park’s official opening time. You’ll be held just past the entrance gates between the Today Cafe and the Universal Studios Store until the park officially opens.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit used to be the ride you’d go on first at Universal Studios Florida. However, the ride closed permanently on 17 August 2025 and the site is being rebuilt as Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift.

I now suggest going straight to Diagon Alley for Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts when the park opens.
If Universal Studios Florida has had Early Park Admission on the day of your visit, the wait for Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts may already be over 45 minutes. If that’s the case I suggest going to Revenge of the Mummy instead.
Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts is the most popular ride at Universal Studios Florida. During peak season the wait time for this ride can be as high as 90 minutes. However, you can skip the queue for this ride with a Universal Express Pass.

Before going on this ride you’ll be asked to stow anything bigger than a fanny pack in one of the free Universal Orlando lockers. The lockers use Photo Validation and are at the entrance to the ride.
After Gringotts, head from Diagon Alley back to the front half of the park. Revenge of the Mummy and Transformers: The Ride 3D are both popular rides that you could do back-to-back before 10:30am if you’re able to move quickly. After Transformers, head over to The Simpsons Ride.

The Simpsons Ride is one of the worst rides at Universal Orlando for motion sickness. I’m not someone who typically gets motion sick but after going on this ride it took me out for the rest of the day and I’ve never been on since.
On my last visit to Universal Studios Florida (May 2026 press trip with the Universal Orlando PR team), Gringotts had a wait of 35 minutes at 9:15am and Revenge of the Mummy had a wait of 20 minutes at 10:30am.

At this time you’ll have around 60 to 90 minutes before you need to leave Universal Studios to go to Islands of Adventure. Which rides and attractions you visit during this time will depend on your interests:
- Despicable Me Minion Mayhem: A family-friendly motion simulator with a 40-inch (102cm) height requirement, so kids need to be around 7 or 8 to ride.
- Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon: A great all-round motion simulator ride located at the entrance of the park.
- Dreamworks Land: Perfect for families with young children. Here you’ll find Shrek’s Swamp, Trolls Trollercoaster and several character meet-and-greets.
- E.T. Adventure: The oldest ride in the theme park dating back to 1990.

Hogwarts Express & Lunch (12:00pm – 1:30pm)
You’ll want to travel from Universal Studios Florida to Islands of Adventure around lunch time. This means you can have lunch in either park before or after the journey. The best places to have lunch at Universal Studios Florida are:
- The Leaky Cauldron (Diagon Alley, British pub food, themed)
- Finnegan’s Bar & Grill (New York, sit-down with table service)
- Krusty Burger (Springfield, themed quick service)

The best places to have lunch at Islands of Adventure are:
- Three Broomsticks (Hogsmeade, themed British comfort food, expect a queue)
- Confisco Grille (Port of Entry, table-service American)
- Thunder Falls Terrace (Jurassic Park, quick service with covered seating)

Take the Hogwarts Express train between the two parks. The train travels between King’s Cross Station in Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade Station in Islands of Adventure.
The train journey only takes 4 minutes but wait times can often be 30 minutes to an hour at this time of day, depending on when you travel.
The Hogwarts Express has different storylines in each direction. Harry Potter fans may want to find the time to take the return journey from Islands of Adventure back to Universal Studios Florida at the end of the day for a different experience.

Afternoon Plan (1:30pm – 5:00pm)
I suggest starting your afternoon in Islands of Adventure with the three rides inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter:
- Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
- Flight of the Hippogriff

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure no longer accepts Express Passes. This is the most popular ride at Islands of Adventure so you could see wait times of over 60 minutes. If that’s the case consider single rider or coming back to this ride at the end of the day.

You’ll want to leave Hogsmeade by heading across the bridge by Hogwarts Castle and into Jurassic Park. Here you’ll find one of the biggest thrill rides at Islands of Adventure; Jurassic World VelociCoaster.
On my last visit to Islands of Adventure (Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend 2026) VelociCoaster had a wait time of 35 minutes at 10:30am.
After VelociCoaster I suggest following the path around to The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk.

This will mean walking past:
- Skull Island: Reign of Kong
- Pteranodon Flyers
- Jurassic Park River Adventure
- Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls
- Doctor Doom’s Fearfall
- Storm Force Accelatron
These are all smaller rides that you may want to come back to if you have time towards the end of the day.
By 5:00pm you should have been on five of the biggest rides in Islands of Adventure:
- Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
- Flight of the Hippogriff
- Jurassic World VelociCoaster
- The Incredible Hulk

If you want to spend more time at Islands of Adventure after this time then you may want to go on:
- Seuss Landing: Great for young kids with toddler-friendly rides.
- Water Rides: Now is the best time to go on the water rides.
- Smaller Rides: Head back to some of the rides you’ve missed.
If you didn’t manage to get on Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure after lunch then now is a great time to check the wait on the Universal Orlando mobile app.

CityWalk Dinner (5:00pm)
I suggest having dinner at CityWalk over eating inside the theme parks. The variety and quality of food available in CityWalk is far superior. Some of my favourite places include:
- Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen
- The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar
- Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food

Regardless of where you’re eating I’d suggest making a table reservation in advance to avoid disappointment. Even during the quieter times of the year it’s rare to get a walk-in for a restaurant at CityWalk at dinner time.

If you don’t want to stay for any of the evening attractions then you can leave the resort. The restaurants at CityWalk are incredible but they do come at a premium so if you’re travelling on a budget you may be better heading back to your car and driving to another restaurant nearby instead.
Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle (8:00pm)
The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle is a 5-minute projection show on Hogwarts Castle in Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure. The show runs every 20 minutes from dusk to park close in standard summer hours.
Aim to be at Hogwarts Castle at least 20 minutes before the show you want to see. The central viewing spots fill quickly.

- During Halloween Horror Nights (late August to early November): Universal Studios Florida closes early at 5pm for daytime guests without an HHN ticket. That makes the Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle the natural closing show option, as Islands of Adventure stays open later through this period.
- During the holiday season (mid-November to end of December): The Nighttime Lights show is replaced by The Magical Christmas Celebration at Hogwarts Castle, a holiday-specific projection show running after dark.
CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular (9:00pm)
CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular is the closing show at Universal Studios Florida. The 22-minute show runs around the central lagoon at park close on selected nights, using projection mapping and lagoon fountains.
CineSational doesn’t run every night and is weather-dependent. Check the Universal Orlando app on the morning of your visit to confirm.

- In standard summer (April to late August): The Universal Mega Movie Parade takes place at 7pm most nights with floats from Back to the Future, Sing, Kung Fu Panda, Ghostbusters, E.T., Jaws and Jurassic Park. Worth catching if you’re between dinner and CineSational.
- During Halloween Horror Nights (late August to early November): CineSational doesn’t run for daytime guests because the park closes early at 5pm on event nights.
- During the holiday season (mid-November to end of December): CineSational doesn’t run. It’s replaced by Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s, which steps off at 5pm or 5:30pm depending on park close and runs nightly through the holiday season (2026 dates to be confirmed by Universal).
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some common questions people ask me about doing both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida in one day.
Can you really do Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in one day?
Yes, with a Park-to-Park ticket, an Express Pass, and a rope-drop arrival. You’ll need to skip a handful of rides at each park and accept that you won’t re-ride favourites, but you can comfortably tick off 12 to 14 headline attractions plus dinner and an evening show.
Do I need a Park-to-Park ticket to do both Universal parks in one day?
Yes. A single-park ticket only admits you to one park on a given day, and the Hogwarts Express ride between the two parks requires Park-to-Park access. There’s no workaround. The price uplift from single-park to Park-to-Park is around $60 per ticket in 2026 before tax.
Which park should I start at on a one-day two-park visit?
Universal Studios Florida if you don’t have Early Park Admission. Islands of Adventure if you do. Hogsmeade and Jurassic World VelociCoaster typically open during Early Park Admission, so on-site hotel guests can rope drop both Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and VelociCoaster before the public is in.
Is Express Pass worth it for a one-day two-park visit?
Yes, for almost everyone. Without Express Pass you’ll typically clear half the rides you’d otherwise get through in a day. Express Unlimited is the version worth the upgrade because it covers re-rides as well as first rides, which makes the difference at Islands of Adventure where the headline coasters genuinely warrant a second go.
Which rides should I rope-drop first at each park?
At Universal Studios Florida, head straight to Diagon Alley for Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. At Islands of Adventure with Early Park Admission, rope drop Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure first, then Jurassic World VelociCoaster. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which used to be the obvious rope drop pick at Universal Studios Florida, closed permanently on 17 August 2025.
Should I add Epic Universe if I only have one day?
No. Epic Universe is a full day in its own right and isn’t reachable via Hogwarts Express. If you’ve got a 3-Day Park-to-Park ticket or longer in 2026 it includes Epic Universe on the same ticket, so plan it as a separate day rather than trying to fold it into a Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure one-day plan.
What time should I take Hogwarts Express to the other park?
Around 12:00pm if you’re starting at Universal Studios Florida. You’ll have time for lunch in Hogsmeade and the afternoon headliners at Islands of Adventure. If you’re starting at Islands of Adventure with Early Park Admission, take Hogwarts Express around 1:00pm to give Universal Studios Florida’s morning crowds time to thin.
