If everyone in your party is going on rides at Universal Orlando, or you’re visiting the resort’s water park Volcano Bay, you’ll likely need a locker during parts of your visit. Universal Orlando runs four distinct locker systems across the resort, and they don’t all work the same way.
The Four Locker Systems at a Glance
Universal Orlando has four locker systems:
- Daily rental lockers: At the front of Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe. Large $15 per day, Family $20 per day. Open and re-open as many times as you want through the day.
- Free attraction lockers: At the entrance to rides where you can’t bring loose items. Free for the posted wait plus ride duration plus around 15 minutes of cushion. A larger compartment costs $3 upfront if your bag does not fit the standard size.
- Prepaid water-ride lockers: At the three Islands of Adventure water rides where you can still ride with your bag. Small $5 or Large $6 for 90 minutes, then $3 per extra half hour up to a $25 daily cap.
- Volcano Bay lockers: Three sizes at five locations, with staffed attendant desks and dedicated systems. Small $14, Medium $20, Large $25. You can access these as often as you want.
Daily Rental Lockers
Each of the three theme parks has all-day lockers near the entrance. You pay once, then open and close the locker as many times as you want until you leave for the day.
Two sizes are available at every park.
- Large (12 in x 13 in x 16.9 in) at $15 per day
- Family (12 in x 16.25 in x 16.9 in) at $20 per day

These lockers are located in different spots at each park.
- Universal Studios Florida. Three sets of daily rental lockers in Production Central. After the turnstiles, head far left or far right. Studio Audience Center near the entrance is the most common pickup point for first-time visitors.
- Islands of Adventure. One set inside the turnstiles, far left by the stroller and wheelchair rental station. Less choice but easier to find.
- Epic Universe. Main locker bank in Celestial Park to the left of Chronos as you enter. Additional concierge kiosks in each themed land.

Two ways to access your locker.
- Ticket barcode scan. Tap your park ticket on the reader.
- Photo Validation. Universal’s branded facial-recognition system that lets you unlock the locker by a face scan at the door. Standard at Epic Universe and Volcano Bay; expanding across Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.
Select your size, follow the prompts, pay by card or mobile pay. Your receipt has your locker number, and the locker auto-unlocks.

To retrieve, return to the same kiosk and indicate you want to access your locker. The screen asks if this is your final retrieval.
- No: Keeps the locker accessible for the rest of the day.
- Yes: Ends your access and frees the locker for the next renter.
If you’re park-hopping between Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure on the same day, rent the Family-sized daily locker at the park you’ll exit from last and walk over to the other park empty-handed.
Free Attraction Lockers
Certain rides at Universal Orlando don’t let you ride with loose items such as bags, phones, sunglasses, and water bottles. Free attraction lockers are provided at the entrance to those rides. You scan in, drop your stuff, ride, scan back out. The locker is free for the time it takes you to queue and ride, plus a roughly 15-minute cushion.
Two sizes are available.
- Standard (14 in x 5.5 in x 16.9 in) at no charge for the ride window
- Large (12 in x 13 in x 16.9 in) at $3 upfront
The large locker is useful for bulky cameras, large water bottles, or anything that won’t fit the standard slot. If you overstay the calculated free window, the locker switches to $3 per extra half hour, capped at $25 for the day.

Universal Studios Florida
Required free lockers at:
- Revenge of the Mummy
- Men in Black Alien Attack
- Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

Islands of Adventure
Required free lockers at:
- The Incredible Hulk Coaster (metal detector at queue entrance)
- Jurassic World VelociCoaster (metal detector at queue entrance)
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
- Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

Epic Universe
Required free lockers at:
- Stardust Racers (metal detector at queue entrance)
- Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
- Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, with the lockers built into the queue rather than at the entrance
Epic Universe‘s free attraction lockers also run on Photo Validation. Enrol your face at the kiosk when you stow your bag, then unlock by face scan at the locker on your way back. Ticket scanning still works for anyone who’d rather not use facial recognition.

The Epic free lockers are double-sided and single-entry: deposit your bag on one side of the queue, retrieve from the other after the ride. You don’t return to the same locker.

Prepaid Water-Ride Lockers
Three water rides at Islands of Adventure don’t require lockers, but offer prepaid ones because you and your stuff will get soaked. The three rides:
- Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls
- Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges
- Jurassic Park River Adventure
Two sizes are available at the splash rides.
- Small at $5 for 90 minutes
- Large at $6 for 90 minutes
Beyond 90 minutes, $3 per extra half hour with a $25 daily cap. The rides do have on-board stow compartments, but those aren’t waterproof. Pay for a locker if you’re carrying anything you don’t want to risk, especially a phone or camera.
Volcano Bay Lockers
The locker system at Volcano Bay is different to the theme parks since this water park is cash-free. You can choose to access your locker by Photo Validation or PIN entry, and every in-park station has a staffed attendant desk.

Every Volcano Bay locker station has a small light above the rental screen. Green means lockers are available; red means the station is full. During my Memorial Day weekend trip, several stations were showing red by mid-afternoon, so get one early if you’re visiting during peak season.

TapuTapu wristbands and TapuPay were retired on 1 October 2025. Payment is now card or via the Universal Orlando mobile app.
Sizes & Prices
- Small (14.11 in x 5.52 in x 17.72 in) at $14
- Medium (16.25 in x 12 in x 16.9 in) at $20
- Large (13 in x 12 in x 16.9 in) at $25

Five Locker Locations
- Outside the park entrance. Convenient on arrival, but you’ll have to exit and re-enter the park to access your locker mid-day, which I’d avoid.
- Wave Village East. Far left behind Waturi Marketplace, closest to the main wave pool.
- Wave Village West. Opposite Dancing Dragons Boat Bar, the other side of the wave pool.
- River Village. Next to Whakawaiwai Eats, closest to the lazy rivers and TeAwa River.
- Rainforest Village. Between Maku Puihi and Bambu. This is the most secluded station, so it’s the one to head to when the front stations are full.
Volcano Bay cabanas come with a built-in safe, removing the need for a separate locker rental. Premium Seating typically offers the same arrangement.
