6 Best Tips for Skipping the Line on Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is the most elusive ride at Universal Orlando.

This is one of just two rides at the Universal Orlando Resort that doesn’t accept an Express Pass and often has wait times of two hours or more.

If you’re a fan of the Harry Potter franchise, you will no doubt want to go on this ride. But how do you avoid waiting two hours to do so?

As an annual passholder, I visit Universal Orlando often. So I’ve seen first-hand the best (and worst) times to get in line for Hagrid’s to help you minimise how long you have to wait.

1. Early Park Admission

The best time to go to Hagrid’s is when the theme park opens with early park admission. That’s because early park admission is only available to:

  • Guests staying on-site in a Universal Orlando Resort hotel
  • Select annual pass holders

Early park admission allows these selected guests to enter one of the Universal Orlando parks one hour before the general public.

Since early park admission is only at one of the theme parks, you’ll need to ensure it’s Islands of Adventure during your visit, as this is where Hagrid’s is.

However, pretty much everyone who goes to Islands of Adventure for early park admission plans to go to Hagrid’s. So there are some things you should know to further minimise your wait:

  • Arrive at Islands of Adventure 30 minutes before early park entry
  • Bring proof of early entry (room key or annual pass)
  • Bring theme park tickets (unless you’re an annual passholder)
  • Go straight to Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure
  • Avoid bringing large bags (you’ll have to waste time putting them in a locker)

It’s roughly a 10-minute fast-paced walk from the entrance of Islands of Adventure to Hagrid’s. You can not run and will be told off by Universal staff for doing so.

2. Single Rider

The second best way of reducing your wait time for Hagrid’s is with the single rider line. The seating format for this ride is in rows of two. One person rides the motorbike; the other rides the sidecar.

As a result, Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure has a single-rider line, with spaces available when an odd number of people are riding.

The single-rider line often has shorter wait times than the regular standby line, although this is not guaranteed.

Sadly, as a single rider, you won’t be able to choose your seat. So, typically, you’ll end up riding in the sidecar (the worst seat of the two). As such, if you want to ride the motorbike, I suggest waiting on the regular standby line instead.

Pro Tip: The number of people in the single rider line will vary throughout the day just the same as the regular line. As such you’re best getting into the single rider line either when the theme park first opens or just before it closes.

3. VIP Experience

The best way to get on Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure without waiting in line is to take the VIP Experience. However, I’ve not included this first since it costs extra money in addition to your theme park entry.

The VIP Experience is a guided tour of the Universal Orlando theme parks. It includes:

  • Backstage line access to all the rides
  • Breakfast buffet
  • Lunch buffet
  • Valet parking

Once the guided tour is over, you also receive a Universal Express Unlimited Pass to use for the rest of the day.

During my VIP Experience at Universal Orlando we went on Hagrid’s twice, back to back and waited less than 5 minutes each time.

It’s worth noting that no two VIP Experiences are the same. Each tour group is between 10 and 12 people, and the guide will always try to cover everything everyone wants to do.

So, if enough people on your tour want to go on Hagrid’s twice, that’s typically what you’ll do. Going on this ride twice is especially great as you’ll get to ride both the motorbike and the sidecar.

4. Virtual Line

One of the best ‘casual’ ways to reduce your time waiting for Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure is to join the virtual line.

However, sadly, a virtual line for Hagrid’s is typically only available during peak times. This includes:

  • Spring Break
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas

There are two ways you can see if the virtual line is available during your visit:

  1. Look for the virtual line signs outside the ride during your visit
  2. Check on the Universal Orlando mobile app

The virtual line allows you to set a return time for the ride. This will enable you to explore the park and go on other rides.

To join the virtual line for Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure, you’ll need to:

  1. Download the Universal Orlando mobile app
  2. Navigate to the rides area
  3. Select Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure
  4. Select the number of people in your party
  5. Select a return time for the ride
  6. Generate the QR code

Once it’s your return time, you’ll return to the ride and have your QR code scanned by a member of the team. You’ll still have to wait here, but it’s typically much shorter than it would have been otherwise.

Pro Tip: The best time to join the virtual line is when the park opens. If the virtual line is closed due to capacity, keep checking back as more time slots are released throughout the day.

5. Stay Late

Staying late is another excellent way to reduce your wait time for Hagrid’s. However, it has its risks.

During the last couple of hours of the day, the park gets quieter as people leave. As a result, the wait time for all rides, including Hagrid’s, reduces, making it a great time to get in line.

However, if you wait until the end of the day and the ride breaks down, it might not work again before the park closes. Conversely, if you arrive early and the ride breaks down, there’s a full day to repair it.

6. Monitor Wait Times

The final way of reducing how long you wait for Hagrid’s is to monitor the ride’s wait time. To do this:

  1. Download the Universal Orlando mobile app
  2. Navigate to the Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure ride
  3. Set the wait time you want to be alerted for

You’ll then receive a notification if the ride’s wait time drops to or below the time you’ve set.

Of course, the risk with this is that the wait time might never drop to the time you’ve set, and you might never get an alert. So you need to be prepared in advance for that and what you might do in that case.
