Universal Orlando is home to some of the most iconic film, TV, and video game characters in the world, and during your visit to the resort you’ll have the chance to meet many of them.

Methodology: This article is based on my May 2026 press trip with the Universal Orlando PR team as well as my 10+ visits to Universal Orlando from 2014 onwards. Cross-verified against the Universal Orlando Resort app in July 2026.

How Character Meets Work at Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando runs character meet-and-greets differently to Walt Disney World. There are far fewer scheduled photo spaces, and instead more roaming appearances.

  • Scheduled meet-and-greets: The more popular characters (Mario, DreamWorks crew, Minions) appear at set locations with photographers on hand. Waits are typically 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Roaming characters: Many characters wander a land freely (Marilyn Monroe on Hollywood Boulevard, Ygor in Darkmoor Village). No queue, but you have to be in the right spot at the right time.
  • Street performances: The Blues Brothers, Triwizard Spirit Rally, and Hogwarts Frog Choir are scheduled performances rather than meet and greets.
  • Hotel lobby appearances: On-site hotels get characters in the lobby with no park ticket required.

Character Dining Options Across the Resort

Universal Orlando has just two character dining experiences:

  • Marvel Character Dinner: at Cafe 4 in Marvel Super Hero Island (Islands of Adventure). Buffet dinner with rotating Marvel heroes. Runs multiple nights per week; requires a park ticket and advance booking.
  • Grinchmas Character Breakfast: seasonal (November through early January) featuring The Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, and the Whos of Whoville. Books out fast.

Special Events

Seasonal events unlock exclusive characters that can’t be seen at Universal Orlando year round. They include:

  • Halloween Horror Nights (Aug 28 to Nov 1, 2026): scare zone actors and IP-specific horror characters.
  • Grinchmas (mid-November to early January): The Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, and the Whos from Whoville take over Seuss Landing.
  • Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s: Despicable Me, Shrek, Madagascar, and Macy’s giant balloons and floats march through USF nightly.
  • Universal Mega Movie Parade (seasonal): the resort’s headline parade, running through USF with rotating movie IP.

Frequently Asked Questions

These are the most common questions I see about meeting characters across Universal Orlando, including Epic Universe and the Wizarding World.

Which characters can you meet at Epic Universe?

Epic Universe meet-and-greets include Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad in Super Nintendo World, Donkey Kong outside his treehouse, Hiccup, Astrid, Toothless, and Stormfly on Isle of Berk, and Frankenstein’s Monster, the Bride, Ygor, and the Invisible Man in Dark Universe. Ministry of Magic adds Higgledy the house-elf, the Plume Puffskein band, and rotating wizarding students.

Where can you meet Mario at Universal Orlando?

You meet Mario, Luigi, and Toad in the central area of Mushroom Kingdom inside Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe (verified on my May 2026 visit). Princess Peach has her own gazebo meet a short walk away, and Donkey Kong meets next door in Donkey Kong Country.

Can you meet Harry Potter characters at Universal Orlando?

You will not meet Harry, Hermione, or Ron themselves, but there are wizarding meet-and-greets at all three Wizarding World lands. Hogsmeade has Hogwarts students and the Triwizard Spirit Rally, Diagon Alley has the Knight Bus Conductor, and Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe has Higgledy the house-elf, a French Auror, and the Parisian wandmaker.

What time do characters appear at Universal Orlando hotels?

Hotel character meets are inconsistent and usually unannounced, but I have most often spotted characters in lobbies between 8am and 10am and again between 4pm and 7pm. Royal Pacific and Sapphire Falls have historically had the most reliable appearances, though schedules vary.

Is the Velociraptor meet at Universal Orlando still happening?

Yes, the Raptor Encounter still runs in Jurassic Park at Islands of Adventure and features Blue from the Jurassic World films. The meet operates daily with multiple appearances, and the queue can be on the longer side at peak times.
