You need at least three days to visit all of the parks at Universal Orlando. The itinerary for this is:
- Day One: Universal Studios Florida & Islands of Adventure
- Day Two: Epic Universe
- Day Three: Volcano Bay
Visiting Universal Studios Florida & Islands of Adventure in one day is possible. However, it requires compromises you’ll be clock-watching a lot of the day and may have to skip some of the smaller rides and attractions.
If you’re happy to skip the water park at Universal Orlando, Volcano Bay then you can spend one day at Universal Studios Florida and one day at Islands of Adventure. Alternatively, if you increase to four days then you can spend one day at each park.
Universal Orlando Parks
Before working out how many days you need at Universal Orlando, it’s first worth understanding what’s available. There are three theme parks and one water park here:
- Universal Studios Florida: Opened 1990. This theme park has a lot of indoor motion simulator rides and movie-themed lands.
- Universal’s Islands of Adventure: Opened 1999. This theme park has more outdoor coasters and water rides.
- Universal Epic Universe: Opened May 2025. Universal’s newest and largest theme park.
- Volcano Bay: Opened 2017. Universal Orlando’s water park featuring a 200-foot Krakatau volcano.

One Day at Universal Orlando Resort
If you only have one day at Universal Orlando Resort, you can do one of the following itineraries:
- Universal Studios Florida & Islands of Adventure
- Epic Universe
- Volcano Bay
Personally, with just one day at Universal Orlando I’d suggest either Universal Studios Florida & Islands of Adventure or Epic Universe. Volcano Bay is great, but the theme parks at Universal Orlando are incredible!

Visiting both Universal Studios Florida & Islands of Adventure in one day is possible, but it is a stretch. You’ll have to miss out on some of the smaller rides and attractions in each of the parks. I’d also recommend staying on-site and buying an Express Pass where possible.
Epic Universe is the newest theme park at Universal Orlando having opened in 2025. This park has the latest in ride technology and is incredibly immersive. If you’ve been to Universal Orlando any time in the past five or six years, I’d suggest skipping the other two parks in favour of exploring Epic Universe.

Two Days at Universal Orlando Resort
If you have two days at Universal Orlando Resort, you can do one of the following itineraries:
- Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure (one day at each)
- Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe
- Universal Studios Florida and Epic Universe
- Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe
- One theme park and Volcano Bay
Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe is the most intense of the five itineraries. You’d visit all three of Universal Orlando’s theme parks in two days: Universal Studios Florida & Islands of Adventure on day one, then Epic Universe on day two.
To do this, you’ll need a Park-to-Park ticket to move between Universal Studios Florida & Islands of Adventure in one day. However, given the intensity (12-14 hour theme park days back-to-back), I’d also suggest staying on-site and investing in an Express Pass where possible.

Universal Studios Florida and Epic Universe or Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe are the more relaxed two-day itineraries. This way you can visit two of the three Universal Orlando theme parks, albeit at a more relaxed pace.
If you want to visit Universal Orlando’s water park Volcano Bay, then I’d suggest doing this on day two and visiting one of the theme parks on day one. Personally, I think Epic Universe would be the best choice, but you could consider visiting Universal Studios Florida & Islands of Adventure in one day too.

Three Days at Universal Orlando Resort
You can visit all of the parks at Universal Orlando Resort in three days. However, it would be very intense. Here are the itineraries you have available:
- All three theme parks and Volcano Bay
- Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe (one day at each theme park)
- Two theme parks plus a full day at Volcano Bay
Visiting all of the parks at Universal Orlando in three days does sound attractive. This would be:
- Day One: Universal Studios Florida & Islands of Adventure
- Day Two: Epic Universe
- Day Three: Volcano Bay

Visiting Universal Studios Florida & Islands of Adventure in one day is intense as it is. Visiting Epic Universe on day two means you’ll have spent 12 to 14 hours in theme parks back-to-back. Volcano Bay is more relaxing, but it’s still a water park, so if you wanted to make the most of the rides here, it’s still a lot.
You could skip Volcano Bay and opt for one day at each theme park:
- Day One: Universal Studios Florida
- Day Two: Islands of Adventure
- Day Three: Epic Universe

You don’t need a Park-to-Park ticket for this itinerary since you won’t be visiting multiple parks in one day. However, that also means you won’t be able to ride the Hogwarts Express or go back on day two to any rides you missed on day one.
Visiting three theme parks in three days is still intense. Visiting Universal Studios Florida on day one and Islands of Adventure on day two, you’ll still spend 10 to 12 hours in the park each day. It’s more that you won’t have to skip as many rides and attractions and can do things at a slightly more relaxed pace.

Four Days at Universal Orlando Resort
You can visit all the parks at Universal Orlando Resort in four days with a much more relaxed pace than you would have in three. With four days at Universal Orlando Resort, you can do one of the following itineraries:
- All four parks (one day at Universal Studios Florida, one at Islands of Adventure, one at Epic Universe, and one at Volcano Bay)
- All three theme parks plus a rest day at the hotel
- All three theme parks, a half-day at Volcano Bay, and a half-day rest

The best itinerary for four days at Universal Orlando is spending one day at each of the four parks:
- Day One: Universal Studios Florida
- Day Two: Islands of Adventure
- Day Three: Volcano Bay
- Day Four: Epic Universe
I suggest visiting Volcano Bay on day three rather than day four as it’s slightly more relaxing than a theme park day. You’ll spend less time here (the park is typically only open from 10am until 7pm) and won’t walk as many steps.
With one day at both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, you’ll see more in each park than you would by combining the two parks into one day. Plus you won’t have to stick to such a strict daily itinerary.

Since you’re spending so much time within the Universal Orlando Resort, I’d highly recommend staying on-site. Even if you’re on a budget, there are hotels at Universal Orlando for about $100 a night.
Staying elsewhere when spending so many days at Universal Orlando is counterproductive, given the amount of time you’ll spend travelling to and from the park.

Five or More Days at Universal Orlando Resort
If you have five days at Universal Orlando you can comfortably visit all of the parks. The five-day itinerary I would suggest is:
- Day One: Universal Studios Florida
- Day Two: Islands of Adventure
- Day Three: Hotel Day
- Day Four: Epic Universe
- Day Five: Volcano Bay
The first two days at Universal Orlando are still your most intense. However, I think it makes sense to visit Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure back-to-back. The two parks flow well together, and I think you’ll still be too excited on day two to want to take a break.

It makes sense to have a relaxing hotel day on day three in the middle of your break before wrapping up day four and day five with Epic Universe and Volcano Bay. You should be able to do the vast majority of rides and attractions in the parks with this itinerary and shouldn’t burn out.
This is also a great itinerary if you’re visiting during Halloween Horror Nights. If you can, I’d suggest visiting on day three or day five where you’ve had a slightly more relaxed time during the day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Readers ask me these questions most often when working out how long to spend at Universal Orlando.
How many days do you need at Universal Orlando?
Four days covers all four parks at a comfortable pace, one each for Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe, and Volcano Bay. Three days works if you skip Volcano Bay or treat it as a half-day, and two days is the floor (one for USF plus IOA on a Park-to-Park ticket, one for Epic Universe). I’d add an extra day for peak season or for families with young kids.
How long do you need at Epic Universe?
At least a full day, and 1.5 to 2 days if you want to complete every headliner. Mine-Kart Madness, Stardust Racers, Mario Kart Bowser’s Challenge, and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry all routinely run 90 plus minute waits, so without Epic Universe Express Pass or a rope-drop strategy, one day can feel rushed.
Can you do Universal Orlando in two days?
Yes, but it’s tight. The standard structure is Day 1 at USF plus IOA on a Park-to-Park ticket (using the Hogwarts Express to hop between Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade), then Day 2 at Epic Universe. I’d strongly recommend Express Pass or rope drop on the Epic Universe day, because catching the four major rides plus the lands in one day is tough without one of those.
Is Universal Express Pass worth it?
For peak-season visits, yes, especially if you only have one day per park. Express Pass reduces waits by roughly 50 to 75 percent at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe sells a separate, single-use Express Pass that is not bundled with any hotel stay. The free Express Unlimited at Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, and Royal Pacific only covers USF and IOA, not Epic Universe or Volcano Bay.
Do you need more days at Universal Orlando during peak season?
Yes. For Spring Break, summer, Thanksgiving week, and Christmas through New Year, I add at least one extra day to absorb the longer wait times. That buffer day also lets us slow down with a hotel pool morning, which we’d rarely skip during peak heat.
Can you visit Volcano Bay as a half-day?
Yes, especially for guests who aren’t water-park enthusiasts. A half-day morning gets you the headliner slides (Krakatau Aqua Coaster, Ko’okiri Body Plunge) before the afternoon thunderstorms roll in. Note Volcano Bay is on a seasonal closure from October 26, 2026 through March 24, 2027, so winter visitors should plan around that.
