How to Get From Melbourne Orlando Airport (MLB) to Universal Studios

Melbourne International Airport is a popular regional airport in Florida. This airport serves domestic flights within the USA and flights from the UK with TUI.

There are three ways you can travel the 75 miles from Melbourne Orlando Airport to Universal Orlando:

  1. Hire Car
  2. Taxi/Rideshare
  3. Bus Transfer

The best way to get from Melbourne Orlando Airport to Universal Orlando is in a taxi. However, if you plan to explore more of Orlando and the surrounding areas, the investment in a rental car may be worthwhile.

⏱️ Time: 1.5 hours
💵 Cost: $22 per day
💻 Book Hire Car: Discover Cars

If you plan to explore more of Orlando and the surrounding area on a trip to Universal Studios then a hire car is a great choice. There are several car rental desks at Melbourne Orlando Airport, including:

  • Hertz
  • Avis
  • Budget

Driving from Melbourne Airport to the Universal Orlando Resort is easy and takes around 90 minutes, depending on traffic.

Renting a car in Orlando costs as little as $22 per day. However, the price will increase dramatically depending on:

  • Duration
  • Car Rental Company
  • Vehicle Type
  • Primary Driver Age

You’ll also be responsible for the car throughout your time in Orlando. As such, you’ll also need to consider the cost of the following:

  • Tolls
  • Gas
  • Parking at theme parks
  • Parking at hotels

These extra costs can often double, if not triple, the cost of hiring a car in Orlando. As such, I only recommend getting a rental car and driving from Melbourne Airport to Universal if you plan to use the car to explore further.

Taxi

⏱️ Time: 1.5 hours
💵 Cost: $94 – $130

There are two ways you can take a taxi from Melbourne Airport to Universal Orlando.

  1. Traditional taxis from outside the airport terminal
  2. Rideshare services such as Uber and Lyft

Since Melbourne Orlando Airport is less popular than other airports in Florida, the number of taxis here is often limited. As such, you’ll usually find better availability and pricing on Uber and Lyft.

An Uber from Melbourne Orlando Airport (MLB) to Universal Orlando costs between $94 and $130. However, since both Uber and Lyft use a dynamic pricing model, the exact price you pay will depend upon the following:

  • Driver availability
  • Rider demand
  • Vehicle type/size
  • Traffic/trip duration

A taxi from Melbourne Airport to Universal Orlando should take around 90 minutes. However, if you’re using Uber or Lyft, do not order your ride until you’ve passed immigration and security and collected your bags.

Uber and Lyft drivers typically arrive within 10 minutes of being ordered. Once the driver arrives, they wait 5 minutes. If you are not in the vehicle within 5 minutes, the driver will leave, and you may still be charged a fee.

Melbourne Orlando Airport is small. As such, whether you choose a traditional taxi or rideshare, you’ll easily find the driver at the terminal entrance.

Private Airport Transfer

⏱️ Time: 2 hours
💵 Cost: N/A

Free coach transfers are typically provided with a TUI package holiday to Orlando. You’ll be able to see the holidays with free coach transfers on the TUI website. This service is confirmed again on your confirmation email.

When you arrive at Melbourne Orlando Airport, TUI staff will be waiting outside the terminal. Once you provide staff with your information, they can tell you which coach you are allocated to.

Keep in mind these are shared coaches. As such, you may have to make several stops to drop off passengers before arriving at your hotel.
