Disneyland Fireworks: The Ultimate Guide (2023)
One of the highlights of visiting Disneyland ‘the happiest place on earth’ is the spectacular fireworks show which takes place at the end of the day.
The fireworks at Disneyland starts between 6.30pm and 9.30pm (the exact time depends on the season and subsequently what time the sun sets). Sadly, Disneyland does not do fireworks every evening, so you’ll want to check the Disneyland fireworks schedule prior to your visit.
There are a number of different ways you can see the fireworks at Disneyland depending on your preferences this could be inside the park or outside of the park, it could be at an exclusive dinner party or in an open space away from the crowds.
What Are The Fireworks Shows At Disneyland?
Since the 27th of January 2023, the fireworks show at the Disneyland Park has been Wonderous Journeys.
Wonderous Journeys is designed to celebrate the animated films and shorts made by Disney throughout its 100-year history which is being celebrated throughout 2023.
Over at Disney’s California Adventure, you’ll also find a new evening show, World of Color – One.
This show also debuted on the 27th of January 2023 to celebrate the storytelling legacy started by Walt Disney a century ago.
However, unlike the night-time performance at the Disneyland Park, World of Color – One at Disney’s California Adventure does not feature any fireworks.
Instead, this performance takes place on the water in front of Pixar Pier and includes water fountains and projections and is designed to tell the story of how one single action such as a drop of water is able to create a ripple which can grow into a wave of change.
What Time Are The Fireworks At Disneyland?
The fireworks display at Disneyland typically starts between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.
The exact time will vary depending on the season / time of year, and subsequently when the sunsets.
The schedule for the Disneyland shows is typically released a couple of weeks in advance, so you’ll be able to find out if the fireworks are taking place and at what time either on the Disneyland website or Disneyland mobile application prior to your visit.
Does Disneyland Do Fireworks Every Night?
Sadly, Disneyland does not have a fireworks show every evening.
Instead, the timing and frequency of the shows depend on a few factors, including the season, park hours, and special events.
During the peak season such as spring break, summer & the holiday’s summer break and the holiday season, the high volume of visitors means that Disneyland puts on a fireworks show most evenings.
However, during the off-season, particularly the winter months, the fireworks shows typically only take place on a weekend when the crowd levels are higher.
That being said, while the off-season may result in fewer fireworks performances, it typically means the park is less crowded so you’ll benefit from shorter wait times for major rides, attractions and character meet-and-greets.
How Long Do The Fireworks At Disneyland Last?
To celebrate 100 years of the Walt Disney Animation Studios, a new fireworks display, Wondrous Journeys was launched at the Disneyland Park on the 27, 2023.
The Wondrous Journeys fireworks display lasts 13 minutes in total and is classed as a fireworks spectacular and multimedia performance that showcases nearly all of the animated films and shorts made by Disney throughout its 100 years.
At Disney’s California Adventure, you’ll find the World of Color – One show which also debuted on January 27, 2023.
This show does not include any fireworks and instead is water-fountain-based with music and projects. This performance lasts 23 minutes in total.
Best Places To Watch The Fireworks Inside The Disneyland Park
There are a number of fantastic viewing locations within the Disneyland Park from which you can watch the fireworks;
In Front Of The Castle
In front of the castle on Main Street USA is the most popular place to watch the Disneyland fireworks.
Here you are in the heart of the action and will be able to see the projections on Sleeping Beauty’s Castle clearly.

However, getting a position in front of the castle for the fireworks performance comes at a price as given that this is the most popular viewing location you’ll find that crowds begin to form here up to three hours before fireworks shows begin.
While in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle provides the best view you’ll find that once the show begins everyone here is standing shoulder to shoulder, with very little personal space which may not be ideal for small children.
Main Street U.S.A
Main Street U.S.A. is the second most popular spot to watch the fireworks inside the Disneyland theme park since you benefit from the backdrop of the castle.
While this gives you the most iconic view, the crowds (especially during the peak season) can be a lot!
In many cases, guests begin ‘reserving’ their space on Main Street U.S.A for the fireworks performance at Disneyland up to three hours in advance of the show.
It’s A Small World
Another fantastic location to watch the fireworks is near the It’s a Small World attraction in Fantasyland.
From here, you can enjoy a unique perspective of the display with the colourful facade of the ride as a backdrop.
Of course, this is behind the castle, so it doesn’t provide that iconic view that you get on Main Street U.S.A. however, the crowds that watch the fireworks from here are significantly more manageable.
Rivers of America
Rivers of America is another quieter area from which to watch the fireworks at Disneyland, especially on nights when Fantasmic! is not taking place.
Here you don’t get a view of the castle, but you can still get the fireworks and the music which will be played on the speakers around this land.
In my opinion, this is the best place to watch the fireworks from if you’re also planning to watch the 9pm Fantasmic! show which takes place in Frontierland.
The Fantasmic! performance lasts 27 minutes, so you have 3 minutes between the end of Fantasmic! and the start of the 9.30pm fireworks show.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is not an official viewing area for the Disneyland fireworks. As such you will not see any of the projections or hear any of the music here.
You will, however, see some of the fireworks since several of the fireworks are shot from just behind this land.

With no music, limited firework bangs and low crowds, this is one of the best places to watch at least some of the fireworks performance if you’re travelling with someone sensitive to loud noises or confined spaces / large crowds.
Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience
For $60 per person, you can purchase the Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience. This dining package provides you with an exclusive viewing area, the Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace from where you can watch the fireworks show.
The dining package includes;
- Entree
- Side
- Dessert
- Unlimited soft drinks
All food and drink can be picked up from Window 1 at Galactic Grill when checking in.
Note that no refunds are given if the Disneyland fireworks are cancelled. However, you will be permitted to stay for the evening (until 10pm) or come and go as you like.
Reservations for the Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace must be made in advance, and are incredibly popular therefore I recommend that if you do want to do this, you book as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment.
Can You See The Disneyland Fireworks From Outside The Park?
Given the launch location of many of the fireworks at Disneyland, it’s possible to see some of the Disneyland fireworks from outside of the theme park.
Some of the best spots to view the fireworks from outside the park include;
- Disney’s California Adventure
- Downtown Disney
- Anaheim GardenWalk parking lot
- Anaheim Packing District rooftop deck
- Hotels in the area (which offer views of the park)
However, it’s important to note that some of these areas may have restricted access, limited viewing angles, or may not offer a clear view of the show due to obstructed views.
Best Places To Watch The Fireworks Outside The Disneyland Park
If you’re looking for a great spot to watch the Disneyland fireworks show outside of the park, there are several options to consider:
Anaheim GardenWalk
Anaheim GardenWalk is a perfect place for kids to watch Disney’s fireworks show. It’s right next to Disneyland, so you will still get that amazing view, but it has food and shops that might keep the kids entertained while you wait in the long line for Disneyland.
Downtown Disney District
This popular shopping and dining area is just outside the Disneyland main gates. It offers several spots to catch the fireworks, including Tortilla Jo’s, and the outdoor patio at the Uva Bar.
Downtown Disney features outdoor and indoor areas where you can grab a seat amongst hundreds of other guests focused on the display in front of them. The fireworks show at Downtown Disney is fantastic and will leave you with a smile.
Anaheim Packing District
This famous food hall and the marketplace are located about two miles from Disneyland and offer a unique vantage point to watch the fireworks from its rooftop deck.
Anaheim Hills
If you want to venture further from the park, the hills surrounding Anaheim offer some great spots to watch the fireworks from a distance.
The Anaheim Packing District has transformed from old houses and warehouses into a popular dining and entertainment district. The Anaheim Packing District offers one of the best viewing areas for the Disneyland Fireworks Show.
Try the Anaheim Hills Golf Course, Oak Canyon Nature Center, or the Santiago Oaks Regional Park.
Remember to check with the venue and local authorities regarding their policies on fireworks viewing and any potential closures or restrictions in the area.
Which Hotel Has The Best Disneyland Fireworks View
Several hotels in the Disneyland area offer great views of the fireworks show.
However, most of the best views here come from balcony rooms which are exclusively sold at a premium and labelled as ‘having incredible firework ‘fireworks view’.
Some hotels offering Disneyland fireworks views include;
Disneyland Hotel
The Disneyland Hotel is a popular choice for those seeking a truly immersive Disney experience.
The hotel boasts themed rooms, such as the Mickey Mouse Penthouse and the Fairy Tale Suite, which transport guests into the magical world of Disney.
Guests can also indulge in world-class dining at the hotel’s award-winning restaurants, such as Napa Rose and Steakhouse 55.
Additionally, the hotel offers a variety of recreational activities, including multiple pools, a spa, and a fitness centre.
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is a luxurious retreat nestled in the heart of Disney California Adventure park. The hotel features Craftsman-style architecture and decor, reflecting the natural beauty of California.
Visitors can enjoy a range of amenities, including a world-class spa, multiple pools, and exclusive access to Disney California Adventure park through a private entrance.
The hotel also offers fine dining at Napa Rose and Storytellers Cafe, and guests can take advantage of the hotel’s complimentary art tours and activities.
Anaheim Marriott
The Anaheim Marriott is a contemporary hotel located just across the street from the Disneyland Resort.
The hotel offers spacious rooms with modern amenities, including flat-screen TVs and high-speed internet access.
Tourists can take in panoramic views of the Disneyland Resort and its nightly fireworks show from select rooms, and the hotel’s on-site restaurant, nFuse Kitchen & Bar, serves up delicious California cuisine.
The Anaheim Marriott also features a fitness centre, outdoor pool, and convenient access to nearby shopping and dining options.
Hyatt Regency Orange County
This hotel is located about two miles from the Disneyland Resort and offers rooms with views of the park and its fireworks. Some rooms even have a private balcony with a view of the show.
Keep in mind that some rooms at these hotels may be more expensive than others, and it’s always a good idea to check with the hotel ahead of time to confirm the views available from your room.
Additionally, the availability of views from hotel rooms may be subject to change and not guaranteed, so it’s important to check with the hotel regarding their policies on fireworks viewing.
Can You See The Disneyland Fireworks From Disney’s California Adventure?
Yes, it is possible to see the Disneyland fireworks from some areas in Disney California Adventure Park.
The best location to catch the show is from the World of Color – One viewing area in the Paradise Pier section of the park.
The World of Color – One show usually takes place after the Disneyland fireworks, so watching both shows in one evening is a great option.
However, keep in mind that the better views of the fireworks from California Adventure may be partially obstructed or not as clear as viewing them from inside Disneyland park.
Does Disney’s California Adventure Have Fireworks?
Disney California Adventure Park does not have traditional fireworks shows. Instead, the park offers a nighttime show called World of Color – One! which takes place at Paradise Bay (on the water just in front of the Pixar Pier).
This show features water fountains, lights, music, and projection mapping on a water screen. It’s a unique and immersive experience that tells the story of Walt Disney’s vision and celebrates the magic of Disney.
Unlike the Disneyland fireworks show, World of Color – One! does not feature traditional fireworks, but instead uses the water fountains and projection mapping to create a stunning display.

This show takes place year-round and is one of the must-see attractions at Disney California Adventure Park.
It’s important to note that due to the popularity of World of Color – One!, viewing areas can fill up quickly, so it’s recommended to arrive early and secure a spot.
Additionally, the show may be subject to change or cancellation due to weather or other factors, so it’s a good idea to check the schedule in advance.
Are Rides Open During The Fireworks At Disneyland?
Most rides and attractions at Disneyland continue to operate during the fireworks show.
However, some of the outdoor rides in the immediate vicinity of the fireworks may be temporarily closed or have restricted access during the show for safety reasons.
These closures typically only last for the nightly fireworks show, which usually lasts around 15-20 minutes.
Additionally, some indoor rides, such as “It’s A Small World” and “Pirates of the Caribbean,” may close early or temporarily pause operations during the fireworks show due to their proximity to the launch site and potential noise disruptions.
