Can You Leave and Re-Enter Universal Studios Orlando?

You can leave and re-enter the Universal Studios theme parks in Orlando as many times as you want in a single day.

However, you should be aware of some things before leaving Universal to ensure a smooth re-entry.

Re-Entry Into a Universal Park Isn’t Guaranteed

While you are permitted to leave and re-enter any Universal theme park on the same day. Re-entry is not guaranteed. Re-admission into Universal Studios may be delayed or denied because:

  • You don’t have your park ticket and therefore can’t prove theme park admission.
  • The theme park is at capacity; therefore, you can only re-enter when space is available.

Subsequently, before leaving Universal Studios, you must do two things:

  1. Check you have your theme park ticket. You’ll need this to re-enter the theme park.
  2. Check crowd levels inside the park. If the theme park reaches capacity after you have left, you will have to queue to get back in.

Crowd levels are significant if you’re visiting Universal over Thanksgiving or Christmas. Typically, you’ll find the theme parks here reach capacity by 11 am during these times.

If you want to know the park’s capacity levels on the day of your visit, ask a staff member at the park gates.

The Universal Theme Park Re-Entry Process

Re-entering any Universal Orlando theme park is a quick and easy process. Simply head to the theme park entrance as you did when you first arrived at the theme park.

Here, the gate attendee will scan your ticket and take your fingerprint. This ensures your theme park ticket is valid and you are the ticket owner.

Try to remember the finger you had scanned when you first validated your theme park ticket. This will make the re-entry process significantly quicker and easier.

This also means that if you’re travelling as a family, you’ll want to remember whose ticket is whose. Once your ticket is validated and ownership is approved, you can enter the theme park.

There is no special entry gate for re-entering the park. Nor can you avoid any lines because you are re-entering.

Re-Entering a Different Universal Theme Park

If you want to re-enter a different theme park at Universal Orlando on the same day, you’ll need a park-to-park ticket. These tickets come in a variety of formats:

  • Two parks: park-to-park ticket (Universal Studios & Islands of Adventure)
  • Three parks: park-to-park ticket (Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure & Volcano Bay)

You can upgrade your Universal Orlando theme park ticket in person at Guest Services. Alternatively, if you bought your tickets from Universal directly, you can do this over the phone before your trip.

Again, you can enter and leave any Universal theme park as many times as you want if you have a park-to-park ticket.

You don’t have to leave Universal Studios to visit Islands of Adventure or vice-versa. Instead, you can take the Hogwarts Express.

The Hogwarts Express travels between:

  • Kings Cross Station at Universal Studios Florida
  • Hogsmeade Station at Islands of Adventure

Re-Entering Universal on a Different Day

If you want to leave and re-enter Universal, you can only do so on the same day. Once the theme park has closed for the night, you can no longer re-enter.

You’ll need a multi-day ticket to re-enter a Universal theme park on a different day. You can upgrade your Universal theme park ticket in two ways:

  • If you bought your ticket from Universal, you can call them and upgrade your ticket before your visit.
  • If you purchased your ticket from Universal or a third party, you can upgrade your ticket in person at Guest Services.

However, you must upgrade your theme park ticket to a multi-day ticket before the end of your one-day visit. If you try to upgrade your ticket the next day, you’ll have to re-purchase a ticket, which is significantly more expensive than a ticket upgrade.

Re-Parking Your Car at Universal Orlando

If you plan to leave Universal in your car and return later that day, you’ll also want to keep your parking receipt.

Parking at Universal Orlando is not cheap. However, keeping your parking receipt allows you to re-park on the same day for free.

Note that this is only applicable for same-day parking. If you come back to Universal the following day, you’ll need to pay to park again.

You’ll have left the secure area of Universal Orlando by going to the parking garage. Subsequently, you must go back through a security screening before re-entering.
