Alton Towers is expensive. Walk up to the gate on the day and you’ll pay £68 per person for a standard day ticket. For a family of four (two adults and two children) that’s £272.
The good news is that very few people actually pay the walk-up price. I’ve visited Alton Towers as a family several times and found multiple legitimate ways to pay a lot less.
How Much Do Alton Towers Tickets Cost?
Alton Towers uses dynamic pricing, which means the cost of a ticket varies depending on when you visit and how far in advance you book. Here’s a breakdown of the current 2026 prices.
Theme Park Day Tickets
| Ticket | Online in Advance | Walk-up on the Day |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Day Pass | From £32 | £68 |
| 2 Day Pass | From £46 | £80 |
| Children under 90cm | Free | Free |
Tickets are priced per person regardless of age, so anyone over 90cm, adult or child, pays the same price. Children under 90cm get in free.
Alton Towers tickets are date-specific, so it’s worth choosing your visit date carefully before you book. The “from £32” advance price applies to off-peak dates. Prices increase as you get closer to your visit date and during busy periods like school holidays.
Tickets are non-refundable, though you may be able to amend the date of your visit depending on where you booked. Check the terms at the point of booking before confirming your date.
Parking
Parking is not included in the cost of admission and must be paid separately. Standard parking costs £13 when booked online in advance, or £15 on the day. Express parking starts from £25 and must be pre-booked online. Express parking is closer to the park entrance.
Waterpark Tickets
The Alton Towers Waterpark is a separate attraction and is not included in standard theme park admission. If you want to visit both on the same trip, you’ll need to book waterpark tickets separately.
How to Get Cheap Alton Towers Tickets
There are several ways to save money on tickets to Alton Towers:
Book Online in Advance
Booking online in advance is the single easiest way to pay less for Alton Towers tickets. You can save up to £36 per person by booking online instead of buying tickets in person at the gate.
Prices are dynamic, so the earlier you book, the better the rate you’re likely to secure, especially for school holiday dates which sell out and increase in price quickly.
Book directly through the official Alton Towers website rather than third-party sellers to avoid any issues on the day.
Tesco Clubcard Vouchers
If you shop at Tesco, your Clubcard points can go a long way towards Alton Towers tickets. Through the Tesco Reward Partners scheme, every 50p in Clubcard points converts to £1 towards tickets. If you don’t have quite enough points to cover the full cost, you can top up the remaining balance with a debit or credit card.
You must redeem your vouchers through the Tesco Clubcard website and book online in advance. Clubcard voucher codes are not valid at the gate on the day.
Merlin Annual Pass
If you’re planning to visit Alton Towers or other Merlin attractions more than once in a year, it’s worth considering a Merlin Annual Pass.
As a family with young children, the Merlin Annual Pass has changed the stress and pressure involved with a trip entirely. When you’ve paid £100 for entry into the theme park, there’s a pressure to maximise the trip.
With small children, the days can be unpredictable and exhausting, especially when the weather isn’t ideal. Having annual passes mean we can leave early without feeling like we’ve wasted money, and just come back another time.
We got our Merlin Annual Passes through the Stay and Play for a Year promotion, where booking a night at a Merlin hotel included annual passes for all guests. We were already looking to stay in the Bluey Suite at the CBeebies Land Hotel, so this just made the whole trip better value for money.
If you’re visiting Alton Towers regularly and don’t need access to other Merlin attractions, the Alton Towers Annual Pass at £64 per person is also worth considering.
Kellogg’s Promotion
Kellogg’s regularly partners with Merlin Entertainments to offer discounts on Alton Towers tickets. When the promotion is running, selected packs of Kellogg’s cereals and snack packs include a discount code for up to two entry tickets.
Find the unique code on the promotional pack, register it online, and use it when booking your tickets in advance. It’s worth checking whether the promotion is active before your visit, as availability is limited for each date and promotional tickets on busy dates can go quickly.
Cadbury Promotion
Cadbury periodically runs a promotion with Merlin Entertainments offering discounts on Alton Towers tickets. When the promotion is running, selected multipacks of Cadbury chocolate include up to 50% off online ticket prices for up to four adult and child entry tickets.
The exact discount percentage varies depending on the attraction and the date you’re visiting, so check the terms before you assume the maximum saving applies to your trip. As with the Kellogg’s promotion, it’s worth checking whether the deal is currently active before your visit.
National Rail 2-for-1
If you’re travelling to Alton Towers by train, register with Days Out Guide and book your train tickets through them to unlock a one-third discount on entry at over 250 UK attractions including Alton Towers. You’ll need to show a valid train ticket at the gate, so don’t throw it away after you’ve travelled.
Student Discount
Students can get a discounted Alton Towers day ticket for £21 by verifying their student status through Student Beans before booking online. This brings the price down significantly from the standard advance rate.
Blue Light Card
NHS staff and emergency services workers can access a discount through the Blue Light Card website. This must be booked online in advance as the discount is not available at the gate on the day.
Parent and Toddler Ticket
On selected off-peak dates, Alton Towers offers a Parent and Toddler ticket which lets one adult and one child aged five and under visit the theme park for a reduced fixed price. This is aimed at families visiting specifically for CBeebies Land and is worth checking if the bigger rides aren’t the priority for your trip.
Sign Up to the Email Newsletter
Alton Towers sends exclusive offers and early access deals to email subscribers. It takes seconds to sign up and can be worth it if you’re flexible on dates and want to catch a flash sale before it’s announced publicly.
